Any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin.

Since Bitcoin was first and is the market leader (in terms of market capThe market capitalization - or market cap - is the total dollar value of all of the coins of a particular cryptocurrency...), the very term “Bitcoin” is often used to refer to all crypto. There are also some who think that Bitcoin will always be the king. For this reason, the term “altcoin” – or “alternative coin” – came to be.
